RENNES, capital of Brittany, is a very attractive town with a student population of almost 60 000 for a local population of 250 000. Situated 2 hours from Paris by train, Rennes is the centre for two univerisites and numerous higher education establishments. Rennes is a rapidly expanding centre of technological expertise.

A city for sports enthusiasts, Rennes is also a place of culture and history with a centre which has been the subject of amazing restoration work and where different styles and periods harmoniously co-exist.

On the cultural front, music, film and traditional and folk arts are celebrated through well-known festivals such as the Transmusicales, Travelling and Les Tombées de la nuit which brings Rennes to life at night in numerous themed bars, particularly in the rue Saint-Michel, nicknamed "rue de la soif" ("thirst street").

Founded in 1995, the Maison des Langues is situated right in the heart of Rennes' business quarter and close to the historic centre.

Our aim is to help students attain the highest level of proficiency for communicating in a wide variety of day-to-day and professional situations.

All our French teachers are French and hold the required university diploma for the teaching of French as a foreign language.

Students have full use of modern facilities - 8 classrooms, 3 language laboratories, multimedia studio, library and multimedia library.

Access to the Internet is free and open to all.

  The emphasis is on tailoring courses to respond to each student's expectations. The numbers in classes are therefore limited to facilitate close monitoring of the whole class and active participation by every student.
Our courses are open to students over 16 years.
Open all year, the Maison des langues offers:
1- Courses in general French

Broad-based courses (6 to 18 hrs per week)
Intensive courses (25 hrs per week)
Term-based courses (25 hrs per week) aimed at exams - DELF/DALF, TEF or TCF
10 to 15 students per group.
2- Programme for "Higher education qualification in 3 years"
This programme of study is aimed at any foreign student whose mother tongue is not French and who wishes to prepare for a French national diploma in three years. The first year is given over to general study of French and an introduction to specialised French. The following two years are spent attending classes at a French higher education establishment.
3- Courses for individuals
Designed for anyone with sufficient time and the desire to follow a "tailor-made", fast-track course which meets their needs precisely (e.g. preparation for 1st and 2nd level DELF, TEF, TCF, French for business, tourism, hotel and catering trade and medicine).
10-hour package.
4- Courses for teachers of French as a foreign language
Courses for current or future teachers of French as a foreign language of all nationalities focusing on classroom practice. Summer or throughout the year for set groups.

5- Programme of tailored courses throughout the year for universities, business schools, companies, school groups (contact us for details)

The Maison des Langues makes use of an accommodation service to house all students enrolled at the language school and to ensure the quality of the accommodation. Particular care is taken over the selection of host families.

· Furnished room with host family: Ideal for total immersion
· Single room: Single room with access to kitchen in resident's home in shared let with other students
· Studio flat in private block: independent, furnished studio flat or apartment for 1 to 4 people with full hotel services

Numerous activities are offered by the Maison des Langues all year round. The school provides the opportunity to do voluntary work and to take part in various cultural activities (theatre, exhibitions, etc). Exploring the city of Rennes and Brittany takes the form of numerous visits and excursions.
