Brussels is a cultural, social and economic mosaic
unlike any other. In its way it provides a microcosm
of the whole of Europe within one French-speaking city.
Brussels was chosen in 1958 to be the seat of the European
Union along with Strasbourg and Luxembourg. Its role
has expanded over the years. Amongst other institutions,
Brussels is home today to the European Commission, European
Parliament and Council of the Europe. Brussels is also
the seat for numerous international institutions and
organisations and hence for numerous diplomatic bodies.
Its human scale, cultural dynamism and tourist and commercial
development mean that it offers all the advantages of
a large European capital without experiencing any of
the inconveniences. In addition it enjoys a position
at the heart of Belgium and of Europe, close to major
Belgian cities and towns (30 minutes from Anvers, Namur,
Bruges, Liège, Gand, Mons, etc) and to those
in France (30 minutes from Lille and 1 hr 20 min from
Paris), the Netherlands and Germany.

The Brussels/Europe Alliance Française, founded
in 1945, is now housed in the heart of the "European
Quarter", just a stone's throw from the historic
centre of Brussels. A member of the highly renowned
network of Alliances Françaises and other official
French institutions, it offers an approach to the French
language based on communication, creativity and dynamism
in French-speaking surroundings. Since 1996, its title
as European French language centre has provided it with
particular expertise in French aimed at those involved
in a public role in the building of Europe.
At the Alliance Française, you are offered a
tailor-made programme of study based on your real needs.
Moreover, you have free access to a library and resources
centre (educational publications, literature, French
press, CD-Rom and DVD viewing) and to cultural activities.
On request, tutors are available to oversee private
study in the distance learning and training centre.
